New Position: Assistant Professor of Sociology (tenure track)

The Sociology Program at CSUCI invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. The Program seeks applicants who specialize in the quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods study of social inequalities, including race, class, gender, and their interaction. Candidates must be committed to joining a Program dedicated to systematic empirical inquiry and high-impact practices (service learning, undergraduate research, community engagement, etc.). Required qualifications: Ph.D. in Sociology or ABD in Sociology with requirement that degree be in hand by the start of the Fall 2022 semester. The ideal candidate will have lived experiences related to various social inequalities, such as race, gender, class, or others, and their interactions. We value the teacher-scholar model for our faculty and seek a colleague equally committed to teaching, research, and service. Applicants should demonstrate a strong record (or evidence of promise) in each of those areas in their application materials. Applicants should demonstrate the commitment to work effectively with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of how they would successfully mentor minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.
Preferred qualifications: Teaching experience, experience of teaching with high-impact practices, research in the areas of Race and Ethnicity, Gender and Sexuality, Social Inequalities.
Responsibilities: Teaching undergraduate courses on Race and Ethnicity, Gender and Sexuality, Social Inequalities, as well as other core and elective Sociology classes consistent with Program needs, including our senior Capstone course, where faculty design and implement community-engaged research projects with students; maintaining an active role as a Teacher-Scholar with an active research agenda with publications; mentoring students, with focus on students pursuing program major and minor; participating in the planning, governance, and operation of the institution through service to the program, campus, community, and academic discipline(s); working in efficient and productive collaboration with all CSUCI personnel as appropriate to tasks at hand.
