vice president's handbook

I.  Vice President of the Association

The term of the Vice-President is for three years; during year one (the year prior to the term as Vice-President) he or she serves as Vice-President-Elect; during year two he or she serves as Vice-President; and year three (the year after the term as Vice-President) he or she serves as Past Vice-President of the Association.

The Vice-President of the Association shall:

  1. start their term in office at the close of the first meeting of Council at the Annual Meeting of the Association.  (C. A.IV. Section 13.)
  2. serve as a member of Council, the governing body of the Association.
    (C. A.IV. Section 2.)
  3. assist the President in planning the program for the Annual Meeting.
    (C. A.IV. Section 7.)
  4. serve on the Program Committee for the Annual Meeting.
  5. not be eligible for re-election to the office of Vice-President-Elect. 
    (C. A.IV. Section 6.)
  6. end their term in office at the close of the first meeting of Council at the Annual Meeting of the Association. (C. A.IV. Section 13.)

The Vice-President of the Association may:

  1. serve as chair of the Program Committee for the Annual Meeting, as negotiated while Vice-President with the President-Elect.

II.  Vice-President-Elect of the Association

The Vice-President-Elect of the Association shall:

  1. start their term in office at the close of the first meeting of Council at the Annual Meeting of the Association. (C. A.IV. Section 13.)
  2. be elected for a term of one year, after which year, shall become Vice- President of the Association.  (C. A.IV. Section 4.)
  3. serve as a member of Council. (C. A.IV. Section 2.)
  4. in the event of death, resignation, absence or inability to serve of the President- Elect, shall become the President-Elect of the Association.  (C. A.IV. Section 4.)
  5. in the event of death, resignation, absence or inability to serve of the President and President-Elect, shall become the President of the Association.  (C. A.IV. Section 4.)
  6. end their term in office at the close of the first meeting of Council at the Annual Meeting of the Association. (C. A.IV. Section 13.)

III.  Past Vice-President of the Association

The Past Vice-President of the Association shall:

  1. start their term in office at the close of the first meeting of Council at the Annual Meeting of the Association. (C. A.IV. Section 13.)
  2. serve as a member of Council. (C. A.IV. Section 2.)
  3. serve as chair, ex officio, of the Committee on Committees.
    (C. A.IV. Section 7.)
  4. end their term in office at the close of the first meeting of Council at the Annual Meeting of the Association. (C. A.IV. Section 13.)
