2013 PSA Meeting to be held in Reno/Sparks
Chuck Hohm, Executive Director
Get out your 2013 calendars and pencil in Thursday, March 21st
through Sunday, March 24th for the 2013 PSA meetings at the
Nugget Resort in Reno/Sparks. After considering a number of
venues, the PSA Site Selection Committee selected the Nugget, which
was where the 1989 PSA meeting was held, twenty two years ago. Why the
newly renovated Nugget Resort in Reno? First, the cost for the PSA and
for PSA members is much more competitive than in other cities in the PSA
“Central Region.” For example, in Sacramento, Denver and Oakland, all
of the competing venues had considerably higher sleeping room rates and
all of them are now charging significant amounts for using meeting rooms,
handling packages, etc. The Nugget Resort in Reno/Sparks will be charging
$85 a night for their sleeping rooms along with free parking. Students will
receive $9.00 a day vouchers that they can use in any of the eateries and
restaurants in the Nugget Resort. There are quite a few music venues and
superb restaurants in the resort along with a very nice swimming pool/spa
with a retractable roof. Another good thing about the Nugget is that it is ad-
jacent to Victorian Station, a shopping mall with bars and restaurants. Also,
the Nugget is 10 minutes from the airport and there is a free hotel shuttle. It
is easy to get into Reno as a number of airlines fly there. It should be noted
that there are a lot of things to do in the Reno area, including skiing at Lake
Tahoe which is only 45 minutes away by car, visiting the historic mining
town, Virginia City, etc.
